Women's Rugby at Durham University

THE TEAMS

Durham University boasts a 1st XV, 2nd XV and 3rd XV in the Northern Prem, Northern 3A and Northern 4B.

The 1st XV performs in the Northern Premiership, the highest league for university rugby and frequently hosts a selection of international talent. In the BUCS Championship Cup, the team reached the quarter final in 2017/18 and the semi-finals in 2016/17.

The 2nd XV was founded in 2012 and has progressed from a development side to a strong contender in the leagues. The team often faces other universities 1st XV teams and came 2nd place in the BUCS Northern Conference Cup in 2017/18 and 1st place in Northern 2B in 2015/16.

The 3rd XV is the newest addition to the club and is a historical achievement for the sport of women’s rugby, becoming the 1st BUCS competing 3rd XV and making DUWRFC the largest women’s rugby club in the United Kingdom. Frequently facing other 1st XVs, the 3rd XV showed their strength becoming runners up in the Northern Conference Cup in their first season.

The 3rd XV is an incredibly proud achievement for the club and a testament to the strength of women’s rugby at Durham University and the breadth of opportunities we can provide players, from college rugby all the way to international stages.
