Women's Rugby at Durham University

THE CLUB

Durham University Rugby Football Club (DUWRFC) is the largest university women’s rugby programme in the UK and is proud in its commitment to academic achievement and rugby excellence, providing students with top class degrees as well as elite rugby training.

DUWRFC boasts over 80 members, spread across 1stXV, 2ndXV and 3rdXV teams in the Northern Prem, Northern 3A and Northern 4B respectively. The club caters for all levels, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes. All players receive fitness training, skill session and twice-weekly strength and conditioning. DUWRFC was founded 35 years ago by Cameron Henderson, who still leads the club and this rich history of rugby excellence has fostered international talent in both 15s and 7s. Alumni and currently students such as Heather Kerr, Sophie Lee, Megan Ellery, Claudia Macdonald, Beth Blacklock and Catlin Sedgeworth have all been involved with their national programme.

We’re proud to have to strong sevens programme, winning silver at BUCS 2016/17 for both the 1stVII and 2ndVII as well as representing the university in international tournaments such as Algarve 2018.

DUWRFC is partnered with Darlington Mowden Park (DMP) Sharks and gives our players access to coaching at the highest level of club rugby, with many playing in the Tyrells Premier 15s or DMP Development Squad.
