DURFC 3rd Xv vs Glasgow 1st XV

On the 28th of November, the Durham 3rd XV played Glasgow 1st XV at home, their first home game for quite some time, so went into this game with high hopes of a home win. After some poor conditions the day before it meant that the venue of the game moved from MC1 to The Crumb. It was still tough conditions to play in with the weather being cold, bursts of rain and a blistering wind blowing right across the pitch.

After a couple of poor starts in their last few games Durham were hoping to start fast, and take advantage of possibly a tired Glasgow team after making the 4 Hour bus trip down to the North of England. Unfortunately starting games still remains a problem for Durham as Glasgow, went over in the first 2 minutes through a driving maul. Then scored another still within the first 5 minutes of the game but this time through some good hand and speed from the Glasgow left winger. After a penalty from Glasgow, Durham finally got some possession and territory. Glasgow’s defense was good but it was a snipe and brilliant offload from Malcolm Corry to Alex Miller that meant Durham got on the score board and showed signs of a fightback. For the next 15 minutes it was a tight affair around the center of the pitch. But, Glasgow performed a lovely set piece play off a scrum to take their lead even further away from Durham. Glasgow’s momentum and confidence was growing as they were now beginning to throw fancy offloads and some pin point accurate kicking, as they managed to score twice more before half time.

This meant it was looking like a tough uphill battle for Durham in the second half as they tried to get back into this contest.

The 2nd half was more closely contested, with Durham applying some more pressure to Glasgow. But a couple of breakaway tries from Glasgow meant they pulled away further. And in the end ran out convincing winners with a final score of 51-14.
