Durham headed down to face their second fixture against Loughborough having already beaten them at home, however they knew it was a different challenge away from the racecourse. The boys were looking forward to running out on Loughborough’s first team pitch.
Durham failed to have the start they wanted as Loughborough were the first on the scoreboard after a series of pick and go’s finally saw them over the line- this was a reminder to Durham about the threats the large Loughborough pack presented, especially in the tight areas. Durham failed to control Loughborough who went on to score another two tries before halftime, however Durham fought back and got a try of their own. The score going into the second half 17-7.
Durham came out of the half time break firing starting with a try scored by Ollie Green after stepping the Loughborough full back. After taking another three points from a penalty the game was a draw at 17-17. After a number of phases Durham’s seven Jamie Adamson made a break on the fringe of the ruck and beat the full back with his pace meaning Durham were in the lead 24-17.
However, Durham then took their foot off the pedal and Loughborough fought back to score two unanswered tries from careless mistakes. Loughborough used their momentum taking another three points and a try, finishing the game 39- 24 to the home team. Durham will look to correct these mistakes and take them into the final games of this term.
