DURFC 2nd XV vs Nottingham 1st XV
After a slow start in difficult playing conditions, Durham found themselves under pressure and two converted tries for Nottingham made it 14-3 after 15 minutes, with Ciaran slotting a penalty for Durham. However, once Durham were given the opportunity to play their rugby, they began to string phases together and it wasn’t long until Durham’s first try was scored through Harri Guy, who ran a great line and powered over. Ciaran duly converted to make it 14-10. Durham gained momentum and put pressure on Nottingham, leading to another great break from Harri Guy who put in Woollatt who danced his way through to score before half time. Ciaran yet again slotted his kick and Durham went into the half time break 17-14 up.
Durham did not start the second half as they needed to and found themselves 23-17 down after three kickable penalties were conceded. Things were then made worse for Durham when a penalty try was given after a somewhat dubious decision leading to Scott Griffin being sin binned. Durham then went down to 13 after another harsh decision, but still managed to score through Jacob Lineen who slid in the corner to make it 30-24 with minutes remaining. Durham were desperately searching for another try but the game was stopped for a forward pass and the final whistle blew.
It was a disappointing day for Durham, who played well at points during the match. Hopefully they can go back to winning ways against Newcastle at home next week.
