Durham came into the game as the only unbeaten team in the league and were excited to host Hartpury at their home ground after a productive week of training following the game against Cardiff the week before. Durham knew the challenge they faced against last year super rugby champions.
It was a tough start for Durham as they let in two tries in quick succession due to strong attack by the Hartpury side who showed composure and accuracy early on. However, Durham began the comeback and after sustained possession Henry Paremain ran hard and fast off nine and crashed over from six meters out making the scores 7-14. Five minutes later Hartpury fought back and scored again underneath the posts after a very strong scrum from their large forward pack making the scores 7-21. As the first half went on Hartpury were growing in confidence which was showed in their play as they scored another two tries with good skills on display, the second half finished 7-35.
Durham started the second half strong with Pingu scoring by getting on the end of a break from Charlie Wilson after an impressive chip and chase over the Hartpury defensive line. Hartpury came back with a drive maul that was well stopped by the Durham pack but then they managed to slice through and score beneath the posts by the Hartpury number 9 making the score 12-45. Ten minutes later Durham came back with their own driving maul to finish strong and Scott Bowerman finished the scoring off for the day, final score 17-45.
It was a tough day at the office for the club as a strong Hartpury side showed their worth. Durham will look to bounce back to winning ways against Loughborough next week.
