Durham 2nd XV vs Loughborough 2nd XV
Off the back of a tough but enjoyable pre season including a trip to Scotland and a match against Newcastle, the Durham 2ndXV hosted the Loughborough 2ndXV. There had been some light rain during the morning but by the time the game started the conditions had cleared up. Durham started well with almost all the rugby being played in the Loughborough half, culminating in a (dubiously) disallowed try from Mike Woollatt by the Loughborough touch judge. But Loughborough were unsuccessful in their exit and the first try of the game was a great individual one, from Jamie Adamson who ran in from around 40 meters.
Some ill-discipline from Loughborough then gave Durham a lineout on their 5 metre which they executed perfectly leading to a try from Oscar Boe from a driving maul. Loughborough then mounted their first proper attack of the game pinning Durham on their 5 metre line, but some exceptional defence with notable big shots from Ben Osuntokun, led to Durham exiting well. Durham were then back down in the Loughborough 22 with a lineout, which again was brilliantly executed leading to back to back tries for Oscar Boe, which was successfully converted by part time kicker Josh Wright.
Loughborough then retaliated with their first try of the game coming from a driving maul of their own. Durham then capitalised on some dominant field position with Kippa Fawcett scoring his first points at Durham with a penalty kick. This was then followed up with an excellent Durham try by Morgan James breaking the ankles of the Loughborough fullback, off the back of another break from Jamie Adamson. Durham then finished with a flourish with a nice try from Fergus Hamilton which was brilliantly converted by Kippa.
