November did not start well for Durham 4s as they came a cropper up against Newcastle 3s. The game started slow as the teams were locked in a physical battle with no points scored for a period of time, until a quick tap penalty from the Newcastle scrum half was thwarted by Leif Hubert. Unfortunately he was not the required 10 metres, therefore receiving a yellow card and allowing Newcastle to gain the first points of the game. Nearing the end of the first half Durham defended valiantly but was undone by a chip through which Newcastle fell on, making the half time score 8 – 0 Newcastle.
The second half started a lot better for Durham with good link up play in the backs, which allowed Fewa Olu-Martins to make a clean break through the Newcastle defence, eventually giving the ball to Dean Elmore who finished off an excellent try. As Durham was pushing to get over the one point deficit, the loss of captain George Winstanley to a yellow card for a tackle in the air came as a big blow. Newcastle capitalised on their advantage with another 3 points and a try nearing final play resulted in the game finishing 18 – 7 to Newcastle.
