DURFC 2nd XV vs Loughborough 2nd XV
After a strong win in St Andrews, the 2nd XV suffered a frustrating 41-14 loss against a strong Loughborough side. Both sides began brightly, playing an expansive style of rugby, which suited the conditions on the day. However Loughborough began to dominate possession and take control of the game as their set piece and driving maul proved too much for Durham to handle. Loughborough scored three tries in quick succession, which led to a rallying team talk under the posts seeing Durham come back with renewed vigour from the kick off. Durham managed to start building phases and scored in the corner through Tom Mclean after a sweeping move involving backs and forwards and showing great ball retention. However, Loughborough finished the half well with a couple of penalties to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The second half began with Durham starting positively and they soon got their second try after a well delayed pass from Paddy Mcduell put Giles Bromley-Martin through a gap who then executed a two on one allowing Tom Mclean to score his second of the game. Durham’s backline continued to look dangerous throughout and when the team managed to build phases Loughborough looked in trouble. However, Loughborough’s dominance at set piece and high tempo attack continued and it proved too much for Durham on the day, leading to Loughborough sealing a comfortable win.
