SEVENS
Rugby Sevens as a sport is increasing in popularity and support. With national interest and participation at a new high, DUWRFC’s Sevens programme is following suit with increased involvement and development, shown through our continued successes on both national and international stages.
In 2017 our 1st XV took part in St Andrews Sevens for the first time, where we came away as Champions. The 2017 BUCS Sevens tournament also proved to be a success, with both the 1st XV and 2nd XV placing second.
Following on from this in 2018, DUWRFC once again championed St. Andrews Sevens, with our 2nd XV being placed runners-up. As training for the BUCS Tournament, two teams were also entered into Manchester Sevens, where we came away with both the Cup and the Plate.
The highlight of our 2018 season was our Sevens Tour to Algarve. After tough competition from teams including Hong Kong and Catalonia, our 1st XV came away champions of the Silver Cup. It has been confirmed we will be heading to Algarve Sevens again in 2019!
Looking forward to the 2019 sevens season, DUWRFC will compete in the BUCS Sevens tournament, as well as returning to both St Andrews and Algarve. We are currently looking into the possibility of another tour to continental Europe.
